How long does trademark registration take?
From filing the application to entry in the register kept by the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic usually takes around 11 to 15 months, provided no significant complications arise from a conflicting mark or another industrial property right. This period is gradually getting shorter as work continues on speeding up the whole procedure.
From when can I use ® with my trademark?
You may use the ® symbol only from the date your trademark is entered in the register, and only for as long as that registration remains valid.
Can I stop a competitor using my trademark for the same products? How?
As trademark owner, you can seek protection in court. You can require the infringer to stop the unlawful conduct and remove the trademark from their products. You can also claim appropriate satisfaction, including financial compensation, damages and the surrender of any unjust enrichment. In addition, you can ask the court to order the infringer to withdraw from the market and destroy all products that infringe or threaten your rights.
Why carry out a trademark register search?
A search shows whether an identical or similar sign is already in use that you, as applicant, want to protect or use in trade in the future. A thorough search and expert opinion can prevent problems that might otherwise arise later from a clash with a similar trademark already on the register.
Do I need a business licence to own a trademark?

The national trademark database – what does it contain and how often is it updated?

It is updated daily: application details, including the list of goods and services, are added on the day of filing, and images of figurative marks are available within one day.
Will a Slovak trademark protect my products when I export them? Is a trademark filed in Slovakia valid abroad too?
